Bulletproof Coffee

Our featured beverage recipe for April is Bulletproof Coffee!

Bulletproof coffee is hot brewed coffee that substitutes melted, grass-fed Irish butter for cream. This trend originated as part of the Bulletproof diet over a decade ago. While the overall diet is not as popular as it once was, bulletproof coffee is returning. The purpose of substituting Irish butter for cream in bulletproof coffee is to add fat and nutrients to your morning coffee, allowing you to have sustained energy that lasts all morning until lunchtime.

I have taken the basic concept of bulletproof coffee further by creating recipes for compound butter specifically made to flavor bulletproof coffee without adding any sugar or artificial flavors.

Making Compound Butter to Flavor Coffee

First, I would like to share a link to a food blog called Love and Lemons, where I found these step-by-step directions on how to make compound butter: https://www.loveandlemons.com/herb-compound-butter/ This blog is an excellent resource on how to make mix butter using herbs and savory ingredients.

To make a flavored compound butter for bulletproof coffee, you must soften unsweetened, grass-fed Irish butter for an hour and pre-measure your ingredients. Mix the softened butter with your desired spices, cocoa powder, honey, or maple syrup, then spread the mixture onto a flat piece of wax paper or cling wrap and roll it into a cylinder shape. Leave it in the fridge to chill overnight, then cut the butter into small, circular slices of about 1 tsp. You can store the pieces in the refrigerator and use them as needed for your morning bulletproof coffee. Four flavors are provided, each made by adding specific ingredients to one stick of Irish butter.
