The Matcha Moringa smoothie is my favorite health food smoothie to make for myself and my family. It is full of nutrition and is delicious so that even my kids love it. There are lots of ways to personalize this basic recipe and change it for seasonal fruits and flavors.
In case you aren’t familiar with Moringa, it has been called the “miracle tree” and the “tree of life” because of it’s well known health benefits and has been used in homeopathic medicine for centuries. Moringa is a tree with green leaves found in tropical climates in India, Asia, and Africa. See the picture below for some of the amazing health benefits.
I am also very excited about moringa because of the opportunity to work with local friends to import moringa from Papua Indonesia and from Tanzania. We recently received the first batch of moringa fresh off the boat from Papua from the communities where our two Nex Gen CEO’s grew up in the jungle. Health Benefits of Moringa
RECIPE
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 cup yogurt of choice
- 1 tsp Matcha. Order some here: https://somscafe.com/product/izu-green-matcha/
- 1/3 tsp Moringa Powder (1/2 tsp if it is loose leaf tea leaves). Order here: https://somscafe.com/product/moringa-tea/
- (Note you can also sub 3 TBSP of our Matcha Moringa Hot Chocolate Mix for the matcha, moringa, and stevia to make a chocolate smoothie: https://somscafe.com/product/matcha-moringa-superfood-hot-chocolate/)
- 1 cup spinach or kale
- 1 cup frozen fruit of choice
- 1/2 frozen banana
- Optional: Additional sweetener of choice
Directions
- Pour 1/3 cup of milk of choice in the bottom of the blender. My favorite milk for smoothies is almond milk. For summer coconut milk is also a fun tropical flavor.
- Add 1/2 cup of yogurt of choice. My favorite is Triple Zero Vanilla but you can experiment with different flavor combinations for variety or use plain Greek yogurt for a healthy choice.
- Add matcha and moringa. It is best to put the powder on top of the liquid so that it doesn’t get clumped up on the bottom of the blender.
- Add spinach or kale.
- Add frozen fruit and banana.
- Some possible add ins: 1 TBSP almond butter for protein, additional sweetener of choice.
- Blend until smooth.
